It is probably a mid-life crisis considering a recent milestone, but this foreign born A- list mostly movie actress who is an Academy Award winner/nominee was trying to hang out with a bunch of barely 20 somethings over the weekend at an event and failing miserably. Everyone just wanted to give her a hug when they saw what she was doing. Complete opposite reaction whenever anyone sees the married one name singer trying to do the same thing.

It's not the MEN she's hanging out with, I got the impression it's more social, making it fellow females, etc.
Yes they know who Fergie is, but Fergie also has a cool/edgy image which still works at 41 whereas Salma married a French bazillionaire and has never cultivated much of a trendy/in-touch persona.

My first thought when I read the blind is that the young set was laughing at both the older ladies but more in affection with Salma and derision at Fergie? Opposite of wanting to hug is running away from?
Selma is a smart woman who has been well respected in the industry for years. Fergie seems 20ish. Of course Hollywood yacht girls will cling to her.
I took "Everyone just wanted to give her a hug when they saw what she was doing." as derogatory. Like she seemed pathetically trying to fit in with the 'kids'.
Maybe I'm mistaken but if that's the case then whoever witnessed this is speaking more poorly of the younger woman and themself than Selma, in reality.

Women don't pick friends based on their age, and I have friends of all ages, so this isn't bad (for either woman) to do.
A lot depends on exactly how you're trying to insert yourself into the fun. From 30+ on, by all means hang out but be cool or go home.
