Quick Hits Part Two

Is Dakota Fanning The Scariest Vampire Alive - I regret that I read all the Twilight books because it forces me to have an opinion, even if not shared on the site about who would be best cast in certain roles. Now, granted it has been a few months since I finished the last book, but I do remember that the character Jane was supposed to be the vampire that was more feared of any in the world. When I think of that, I have a hard time thinking of Dakota Fanning in that role. Yes, in the book, Jane was described as having the face of a child, and so a soon to be 15 year old would have that qualification. But, I just can't imagine Dakota being all that scary and intimidating.

Tom And Jerry Movie - I have always been a big fan of Tom and Jerry. I loved that there were no words needed and that a few short minutes was all that was needed to really make something fun and entertaining. It feels smart even when I watch it as an adult. So, it is kind of with a mixed reaction that I saw that Variety is reporting that a Tom and Jerry full length movie is in the works. It will be similar to the Scooby Doo films in that it will combine CGI with live action actors. The brilliance of Tom and Jerry is that they were short and quick and to the point. I think that 90 minutes is just going to be way too much of a good thing and that the shorts will never be as much fun again.

Sally Hawkins Who? - If you don't have this week's issue of Newsweek, you should go stand in the checkout line and read their 13th round table interview with Brad Pitt, Robert Downey Jr. Anne Hathaway, Frank Langella, and Sally Hawkins. If you don't want to go anywhere though you can click here and read it. Read how Anne Hathaway comes across as just the biggest pain in the world and seems so spoiled. Robert Downey Jr is hilarious, Brad Pitt pretentious, Frank Langella curious and Sally Hawkins as someone who says like five words in an hour long interview. Definitely worth your time.

I haven't read any of the books, but Dakota Fanning could potentially be amazing. She is one of the best (if not the best) child-like female actors about at the moment (that i know of).

Also think about Dunst when she was Claudia in Interview With The Vampire - so perfect for the role, and Fanning is a lot like her with the 'beyond her years' acting roles and haunting doll-like beauty (she's started looking so much like the Russian top/supermodel Vlada for anyone that likes the fashion industry).

She could be the saving grace of this laughable Twilight series...

I don't know. I always found Dakota Fanning slightly creepy when she was younger. She's better than most actresses twice her age are, anyway. I've admittedly avoided the Twilight series like the plague (I have a teenage sister- 'nuff said) but I bet Dakota might not be totally horrible and playing scary and evil.

Dakota Fanning isn't scary? Have you SEEN "Uptown Girls"?

I like Dakota think she is a very good actress. I am sure with makeup they will make her look like the character she should represent.

A child vampire is already scary - Laurell K Hamilton can be blamed for me thinking this.

The thought of a child body that can never age and has the mentality (and usually needs) of an adult... Creepy as fuck.

Read the interview:

Wow, um, Ent, you kind of just nailed everyone on the head right there. And Brad Pitt doesn't know how to operate a computer? BS. Yeah he's this huge environmentalist/faux humanitarian and he can't turn on a computer.

What a dumbass any way you spin it.

I like the Twilight Saga...I can see Dakota playing the role of Jane. She's at that age where she can't pull off playing a little girl, but if she played a much older role, people would be so upset about it cuz it would just be do mature for her. At this point, I don't really care who plays what, I'll go see it to see how close they keep it to the book. What can I say? I love the series...

StiffKittens, Dakota is a very good actress, but Abigail Breslin can knock her socks off.

Dakota has aged enough in the last year that I think she can pull this off - she looks like a teenager now, not a kid anymore. I do think that staying so much in the spotlight is going to prevent her from ever having a stable life, but that ship probably sailed a long time ago.

Tom & Jerry movie = bad.

Hah! Take that Anne Hathaway defenders!!!

Hathaway: OK, I have a confession. I lied before when you asked if I Googled myself. I do. I embarrassed by it because I know how terrible it is.

Downey: Wait a minute, should I feel s----y that I Google myself?

Hathaway: You should feel s----y about other things, Robert.

Wow. What an enormous bitch.

Enty, I can't believe you read Twilight. SHAME ON YOU.

I'm not a fan of Dakota Fanning. She's creepy, and she doesn't do the usual kid acting "mugging for the camera" but I haven't seen anything where she's done anything remarkable. Look at the girls younger than her who have won Oscars: Anna Paquin, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Tatum O'Neal really shone in those roles (since then, not so much, but at the time, they were stellar).

Mooshki - I've only seem her in Definitely, Maybe and it made me want to smack her with a closed fist. Could have been the film though (even Isla couldn't save that suckfest..)

I think Fanning is very level headed (given her life) and not seeking to fast forward to adulthood like most of the teenyboppers - shown in her attitude and way of dressing (the reason i actually have respect for her and her talent).

Think about this: Fanning and Taylor Momsen are nearly the same age. Scary, scary thought.

About Hathaway --

My local newspeople here in DC met her in the VVIP room of one of the events for the inauguration. There were very few people there, but the morning anchor went up to the famous ones and asked for pictures to show on the local morning news. Hathaway said no because "whenever I do that, a line always forms." Local newsguy said there were about 6 people in the room at the time.

stiffkittens-

I had that thought about Fanning and Momsen being very close in age and, yeah, it is pretty frightening.

The local Fox station news anchors here in DC were at an inaugural ball in the VIP tent with Anne Hathaway. There were only a few people in the tent (maybe 5, they said), and Hathaway refused to take a picture with the local anchors because "a line always forms when people ask me to take pictures, so no".

What a bitch.

It is so refreshing to read about an honest celebrity like Robert Downey, Jr. I love that he admits something that is most likely true for all of them, it feels best to be in a hit movie. Brad Pitt should google himself sometime...he might figure out that he sounds like a pompous ass!

I don't know why i'm surprised that you've read all teh Twilight books, Enty?!

LOVE Tom & Jerry, but as a movie? Umm, no thanks. Just wouldn't work. At. All.

i am a princess, yes i am said...

enty

my grandpa bob was the original creator of tom and jerry. the mouse looks the same but the cat is different. he never got the proper credit for it but i have copies of the originals. he's alive so he still has the originals.

funny story how he became my grandpa. his name is bob allen if you care to look him up. he has a fantastic story to tell about being a animator at the beginning.

My God Chris Tucker got heavy! Almost didn't recognize him.

As for Dakota as Jane: not sure if that's a good idea. Jane just LOOKS young, she doesn't have to be played be someone who looks young. Plus I like the idea of sticking with relative unknowns for this franchise.

Come on, am I the only one who was terrified of Dakota when she smiled while having braces? SCARY.

Good article. I've lost most of my respect for Brad Pitt after reading this interview. Definitely pompous & self important. I bet he pays someone to google him.

Amazing to me how insecure Anne Hathaway is...what's the big deal about googling yourself? Doesn't everyone google themselves? She's clearly more worried about what others think of her than telling the truth. Not that I haven't done that myself at times.

I now love Robert Downey, Jr. I think Iron Man might be his best movie.

Hey, when Brad was dating/married to Jen, did they not keep in touch via webcam all the time? I seem to recall hearing about that more than once.

I never liked Tom and Jerry. This sounds like that awful Looney Tunes movie. And I'm going to have to shell out money to sit through that shitfest? As if Tale of Despereaux wasn't bad enough. I'm trying to stave off the Mall Cop movie.

The Tom and Jerry movie they made back in 1992 sucked, I'm sure this one won't be any different...

Only way Tom & Jerry will work is if it's super violent like the original toons, a PG-13 on the edge of an R rating because the producers finally backed down on that questionable scene between Tom and Spike the bulldog...

brilliance and Tom and Jerry shouldnt be in the same sentence

@i'maprincess-
that is truly amazing! i WILL google your grampa, and will share w/ mr. bunny (we're into animation art around here), even though t & J weren't favorites of mine. a lot of artists didn't always get credit, producing "cartoons" takes so many people. are you on facebook?

i've always been a fan of RDJ, his talent was so huge (and i don't say that lightly. he's one of the few actors i would say that about), and i'm so happy that he seems to have put his demons behind him. "tropic thunder" is on my netflix queue, but maybe i'll order it on cable tonight.

sorry, princess, i really screwed up your name, there.
i just thought it was neat, and didn't bother going back to check!
