Random Photos Part Three

Spice Girls reunited for the first time in four years and probably the last.

Beyonce and Jay-Z released a bunch of photos of themselves being rich and some of them just having fun.
Christina Aguilera doing press for The Voice.
Carly Rae Jepsen just completed her new record. She looks thrilled. Probably feeling that one hit wonder pressure.
Chad Johnson got out of jail, and was out of a job after the Miami Dolphins released him.
Carrie Underwood showing off some decent form in throwing out a first pitch.
Daniel Radcliffe shows off a woman who is not his girlfriend.
George Clooney hangs out with Chris Wallace from FOX News.

Not that they can't be friends, but isn't it odd that Clooney would be hanging out with someone from FOX News? Kind of reinforces what we all thought on that blind a few months ago about the A list actor who is outwardly Democrat, but doesn't really vote that way.

crila16 said...

I guess we have an answer to the BV about the actor who claims to be a Democrat, throws lots of parties to raise money for the Dems...but will only vote Republican and actually dislikes the Dems.

I'm horrified!!! George how could you????

SusanB said...

I like Chris Wallace. And I like George Clooney. And frankly, for people to be so all embracng of other people, why can't you include people with whom you disagree?

Redheat said...

Personally I try to keep my life a douchefree zone :)

I don't know about anyone else, but growing tired of celebs "look at me" tweets.

Jessi said...

So wait, you can't be friends with people that may oppose your political views? Just because he is hanging out with the guy, that doesn't mean that Clooney is a "closeted" democrat. If so then this man has many closeted actions in his life!

Agent**It said...

Chris has been friends with George for a long time. Clooney was interviewed by him on Fox re Sudan.

How can you have a true point of view unless you can have conversations with people that differ from your opinions? I'd be bored to death talking to people that agree with me all the time.

Of course, I proudly flunk all political voter profile litmus tests:)

There is a HUGE difference between people of "differing" opinions and those who purposely obfuscate the facts and truth while claiming they are reporting "news"

There is nothing wrong with having a good discussion with someone with a different view, worlds away from befriending someone who is comfortable with lying for the sake of the ideal and to do it to millions of people.

Sorry

Wow, Helen Gurley Brown died. I think I'll buy the latest issue of Cosmo and maybe drink a Cosmo in her memory.

Watching Victoria pose while the other Spice Girls danced was hilarious. So predictable.
I'm actually surprised she agreed to perform. Perhaps there is a correlation between that and her dress being showcased with the "real" designers?

Texshan said...

Holy crap, I'm good friends with tons of people I don't agree with politically. A person's politics don't define if they are a good person or not. Geez, if some of you people are only friends with those with whom you agree, you are pretty damn closed-minded.

Also, that Carly person needs to stop pretending she's a teenager. That trick is almost 27 years old.

For some reason, the ridiculousness of those Beyonce photos fill me with rage. She seems to love to show off to everyone how ultra-fab her life is. Beeyotch, you grew up in the same hood I did. Quite trying to be fancy.

Beyonce looks wonderful without makeup. Younger too. I dont get clooney hanging with wallace, who always has that dorky smirk on his face I'd love to smack off. I hv dear friends and not so dear relatives-lol- who hv opposite opinions politically than me. Of course they are wrong, but we just dont discuss, which i secretly take as an acknowledgement they are wrong, lol

djphob said...

Right on, Redheat.

libby said...

Redheat---Perfectly said. About 20% of the time though, Wallace DOES say or ask the correct thing at the correct time. He's not a toady 100% of the time to his corporate overlords.
By 'correct', I mean he clearly goes off script, agenda be damned. Not as much as the delightful Shep Smith though (love his eyerolls).

Helen Gurley Brown died? I need to see if Netflix has Sex and the Single Girl available for streaming. I loved her reaction when the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill scandal broke. She said that half the fun of working in an office in the late 50's was being chased around desks by your married boss. She was the icon of the Mad Men era urban women.

libby said...

Texshan, Mike Wallace is dead. And MSNBC has all kinds of Conservatives on every day, even hosting their own shows. Some huge GOP figures are employed by MSNBC and are on every day.
Fox is more Tea Party-oriented, more extreme Right.
I promise, I'm a news junkie.

Agent**It said...

"Purposely obfuscate the facts and truth while claiming they are reporting "news" ". That just about covers all cable and network news ! Which is why people need to read, read and then read some more.

lazyday603 said...

I seriously doubt Mike Wallace's son is a conservative. He works for a media outlet that ID's itself as such, but that doesn't mean he votes the same way his boss Roger Ailes votes. Anyway who cares? 90% of the guys in my fantasy football league have turned into hateful reactionary versions of their fathers over the years. I still like talking football with them.

crila16 said...

@Texchan...LOL!!! I was thinking the same thing.

Mike Wallace was a journalist. Chris Wallace is a cheap shill. If I went to work for Fox News my father, the award-winning journalist, would rise from his grave and hunt me down like a crazed zombie.

Ochocinco doesn't need to worry. The Seahawks probably faxed him a contract offer before he made bail.

Texshan said...

I know Mike is dead -- I meant Chris, his son. And I know you aren't trying to convince me that MSNBC is middle-of-the-road.

Fox doesn't employ all Republicans, either. There are a good number of liberals and Libertarians on that channel. Yes, it is basically a right-leaning channel, but it's no more partisan than MSNBC is.

dia papaya said...

First, my Spice Girls! So happy to see them for probably the last time. Scary (Mel B), damn you look great! She was always my favorite. I like crazy, what can I say.

Happy Chad got a taste of his own medicine. FIRED! No more football for you douchebag.

Beyonce - These photos make me mad too. Super smugness thinly veiled with "I'm so normal" shots (I saw the whole set on dailymail). ITA with Texshan on this one.

Texshan said...

FYI, Chris Wallace is a registered Democrat who says he has voted for candidates of both political parties.

Agent**It said...

I sat next to Mike Wallace many moons ago in a NY restaurant. All I remember is that he suggested to get the meatloaf. It was delicious. He was very nice and very inquisitive about us.
Now I am hungry and want meat loaf:)

Texshan said...

Ooh, Agent, now I want meatloaf, too! And here I am trying to eat less meat. Thanks so much.

dia papaya said...

Just to be different here....
Maybe Clooney is having a private "meeting" with Wallace.

ITA with everyone who said having honest discussions with friends of differing opinions is a good thing. Keeps life spicy.

Agent**It said...

@Texshan, sorry:)

Miss Reynolds said...

@Texshan - "Fox doesn't employ all Republicans, either. There are a good number of liberals and Libertarians"

Libertarian are just Koch-ed up Republicans trying to be hip. And what is this "good number of liberals" you speak of? Beckel, Juan Williams and a couple other talking heads like Powers? I don't have a problem with Fox News being the mouthpiece for Republicans but at least can this "fair and balanced" garbage. Because it isn't.

SusanB said...

I don't totally agree with ANYONE - if someone agrees totally with a politician or a news media outlet or their best friend, it just tells me they don't think for themselves.

And if you run the gamet from Rachel Maddow on the left to Sean Hannity on the right, you'll find they ALL "misrepresent" things. ALL of them.

Sorry to hear about Helen Gurley Brown - I read "Sex and the Single Girl" when I was in my 20s - I thought I knew everything after reading that! And I read Cosmo religiously for years.

Sylvia said...

Regarding the Spice Girls heading that it was their first time reunion. Weren't they on tour last year or the year before?

Beyond and her phoney PR pics.

Texshan said...

Unknown, you don't know what the hell you are talking about. As a Libertarian, I don't give a shit if people think I'm "hip" or not, and I can't stand Koch. So don't try to speak for me.

And I would say there is at LEAST an equal percentage of non-Republicans working at Fox as there are conservatives at MSNBC.

dia papaya said...

Not A Ninny said...

"Libertarian are just Koch-ed up Republicans trying to be hip."

Or a bunch of brainwashed Grover Norquist wannabes. But it didn't used to be that way. Back in the Ed Clark days, the Libertarian party was controlled by actual libertarians, half of whom were dope-crazed hippies.

Give Ron Paul credit for one thing: he's a fairly faithful libertarian and he's done a lot to rescue the Libertarian party from the hijacking foisted upon it by the Reagan crowd 32 years ago.

Susan said...

The Spice Girls pic is cute. They look genuinely thrilled to see each other.

OMG. You Fox News haters always make me laugh. There are brilliants liberal peeps on Fox News all the time - Bob Beckel and Juan Williams are fantastic. And if I was looking for a cable news job and Fox News came knocking on the door, fuck yeah I would take it. They are No. 1 in virtually every time slot.

If I picked my friends based on political persuasion, I would have NO friends. Variety is the spice of life. I have extreme-lefty and extreme-righty friends with every walk of life in between. Who cares?! And sidenote, people's political views change as their life experiences change.

I think it's awesome that Clooney and Wallace are buds. And honestly, those who lean right really aren't that bad all the time. Get a GRIP!!

And frankly, for people to be so all embracing of other people, why can't you include people with whom you disagree?

If we don't embrace everyone on a gossip site and feel comfortable laughing at and belittling others for having an unpopular opinion, why would we expect better behavior in our real lives, when there's something substantial at stake?

libby said...

Yes, I am implying that MSNBC is a much for fair & balanced channel than Fox could ever hope to be. Watch it, daytimes. Michael Steele is one at least two shows every day, plus MANY GOP politicians, and Republican hosts (S.E. Cupp, Scarborough), & journalists (Halperin) that definitely lean right of center.

It's only the nighttime stuff that includes more 'commentary'. Even then, Republicans show up and get plenty of time to argue their points. Chris Matthews spent a third of his show talking with Newt Gingrich the other day--having a real debate. John friggin' SUNUNU is on MSNBC all the time too. And he's a blustering LIAR.

I think what I would call your confusion on this is knowing the difference between the traditional GOP, and the Tea Party. Libertarianism is similar to the TP in their mistrust and dislike of government, and wish to defund it. The old GOP knew that government DOES have a place in making America the greatest nation on Earth, and would speak to Democrats to get compromises through.

I get annoyed how most people forget government they use EVERY DAY, that taxes pay for--things that make America, America.
Off the top of my head---
Federally-backed business loans, student loans, FHA loans; Air Traffic Control, National Weather Service, interstate highways, the SEC, TSA, Justice Department, FBI & CIA, and the military---you get the idea. I don't think anyone is against thorough auditing of funding & constant improvement in how we spend our tax dollars, but ALL of us use so much government money.

Don't forget that 'dreaded' Medicaid that mostly goes to the elderly in nursing homes. Before Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, grandma had to move into her kid's house when she became too disabled. And be honest with yourselves---How many of you would want your disabled mother-in-law to move in, for you to bathe & spoon-feed? Medicaid ensures grandma is cared for by professionals, and lets you get on with your own careers & kids.

Just like Food Stamps go mostly to children. Do YOU want to see hungry kids in the streets, begging, starving kids? Nobody does. But a good society does cost money. Those programs can certainly benefit from a reduction in waste, fraud, and abuse, but eliminating them takes us back to an ugly place.

My BF is old GOP, and my dad is sexist & full-tilt-Tea Party. I am a Socialist, a Democrat, a Progressive, a Liberal, a Feminist. I still care for my dad & BF, though. It's about a balanced discussion, something that is KEY to government functioning, and being a betterment to society as a whole.

Oops---Do I hear my 'wrap it UP!' music playing? Sorry....Love you ALL. Mwah!

Meatloaf lovers- a trick
Adapt to however you make it:
Shape the loaf maybe using 2/3 of the mixed meat.Use your knuckles and pound a ridge into the center of the loaf.Throw into the ridge button mushrooms that are halved(cleaned but NOT cooked). Take the remaining hunk of meatloaf and smash it on top.Make sure you cover up the mushrooms with the meatloaf. Add cheese w/mushrooms is optional.
Have several adult beverages, and enjoy. Note that the mushrooms are going to give extra liquid to the pan (they will end up being steamed) and add to the gravy base.

And I still remember when every week or so when Obama first became prez that some dipshit on FoxNews would "accidentally" refer to him with some vague Hitler reference or say Osama instead of Obama. Texshan said...

See, this is what I find so hard to deal with -- liberals, Democrats, etc., are SO pots calling the kettles black. Many can't even admit that MSNBC is just as partisan as Fox. And Jasmine, Fox is not the only "national joke" when it comes to news. If you EVER spent any time really getting to know and understand a conservative, reading the less-hysterical conservative sites, etc., you would know that MSNBC is considered just as big of a joke by roughly half the country. You know, the half you like to pretend don't exist or aren't as smart as you.

Libby, kindly do not tell me what I do or don't understand, know about my political party, etc. I know what the Libertarian party stands for and agree with them on about 75% of it. I know the difference between the Libertarians, the GOP and the Tea Party. If you actually took the time to read what they all REALLY believe, rather than what MSNBC wants you to think they believe, you would see that there is a lot of commonality between them.
No, they aren't identical, especially as Libertarians tend to be more liberal about social issues, but they do share a lot of the same beliefs. And Libertarians do not want to "defund" the government. They want to severely limit it and eliminate many state functions. There's a difference. It sounds like you are one of those people who say that "Somolia is a Libertarian's wet dream." No, it's an anarchist's wet dream. Not the same thing at all.

Here's my loaf recipe:

2 lbs ground beef
1 lb ground pork or pork sausage
1/2 c crushed crackers/maybe a tad more
About 8-10 oz of tomato sauce
Healthy pinch of herbs de provence
1 or 2 eggs (can't remember - eyeball it)

Mush it all together with your hands and make 3 or 4 loaves in 2 10 x 13 Pyrex baking pans. Cover with foil and bake for an hour @ 350 F. Meanwhile, mix up about 1/2 c ketchup with a healthy squeeze of honey. After the hour is up, remove the foil, skim off any fat or yucky schmaltz, and brush on your ketchup and honey. Bake, uncovered, for 10-12 more minutes, until it looks done.

Notes:
1. Yum!
2. You can scale down the quantity (1 lb hamburger and 1/2 lb sausage). I just have hungry boys to feed!
3. Delicious food trumps politics any day.

B. Profane, forgive me, but I laughed thinking about your zombie dad. And, I wish someone would invent a tin foil hat or something I could put on my mother to block reception of all things political. She's already going nuts between tv and her idiot friends on Facebook, and it's only August :-(.

Thank you for the kind words, dia.

I don't intend to be such a Debbie Downer, contrary to the image I may or may not have around here.

I just don't get it, I guess. Coming to a gossip blog isn't supposed to be a chore. I come to read up on some celebs, occasionally be sarcastic and write a few words about it. Everyone comes for that, I assume.

But almost every day, it turns into some rant-filled arugment because someone cracked a joke someone else didn't find funny, or someone didn't understand the sarcasm behind a comment. I'm guilty of that. A lot of you are, too. We don't do it to be mean, but it turns mean so often, with many taking sides and the rest of us feeling picked on and left out.

It reaches a point where people are too scared to give an opinion. On a gossip blog. Do we realize how warped that is?

I'll give an example, only because I think dia will be OK with me using it. She called Chad Johnson a d-bag earlier in the thread. I sort of cringed at that, not because dia doesn't have the right to express that opinion. But my opinion is different.

I didn't give my opinion on the subject because the last thing I need is for someone to think I'm pro-Chad, and therefore pro-domestic violence. That may sound like a leap, but I really it could go there and nothing could be further from the truth.

As I mentioned, I've been guilty of doing that. But I don't feel that I've ever did so to the point of belittling anyone or making them feel bad for saying what they thought.

Again, I'm just using dia as example. She hasn't ever insulted me, and I don't want to give the impression that she has. And I don't think she would have in this case. But I think someone else might, and I don't want to deal with the drama.

So often, we jump to assumptions. Not just here, but with life in general. It's frustrating.

Don't assume someone is stupid. Don't assume someone won't listen to your opinion. Don't assume we're too stuck in our ways to ever see your side. Don't assume we're difficult. So are you. We all are. Humanity is difficult and good luck to anyone who hasn't figured that out.

Don't assume we're putting words in your mouth. Maybe we just have our own thought on a subject. Instead of saying there's information out there and walking away, tell us where the information is. I think a lot of us enjoy learning new things from others, but if you don't give us that chance, well, that's on you.

Don't assume we only have friends who always agree with us. How mean. If you can friends that are different from you, what makes you think the rest of us are so obtuse that we can't possibly be open-minded enough to others and their differences?

And don't berate someone because their two cents doesn't add up to the change you have in your pocket. So what if it doesn't? You say variety is the spice of life, but I don't know. It seems all salt and pepper to me. If that makes sense.

I apologize for the doom-and-gloom thesis. I didn't mean to go for this long, especially to people I don't know and likely will never meet. I've always been the one to look down when everyone else looks up. I'm sorry if I insulted anyone, please blame my fickle mind but not my intent.

Turkey loaf secrets I won't even share with my family:

Use quick cooking oats in lieu of breadcrumbs, it stays more moist. I also grate half a zucchini, one carrot, and chop plenty of onion (Vidalia only in our house), celery, bell pepper and baby bellas, the veggies give it more texture and flavor. One egg, plenty of seasonings. 400 degrees, 45 minutes, top with ketchup and bake an additional 20. I prefer mine smothered in ketchup. :)

I love all loaf equally, and am looking forward to trying your recipes, Agent and Frufra! :)

1 onion, finely chopped
1 lb ground beef or turkey
1 egg
garlic powder to taste
Worcestershire to taste (I do loads of this)
Sauce mixture:
1/3 cup ketchup
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup pineapple preserves
Preheat oven to 350. Combine onion-worcestershire. Mix well and bake about 30 minutes. Combine Ketchup - pineapple preserves and pour over meatloaf. Cook another 20 minutes or so

Is there anything the resembles the meat of meatloaf in the vegetarian world? The fake burger patties are all the wrong texture for that. Obviously, I've lived without it for 20 years and can continue to, but I'm just wondering if someone knows a trick I don't. (No mushrooms, they kill me.)

Also, I don't remember the blind about conflicting private vs public political beliefs recently at ALL! Although awhile ago there was one about an actress that set herself apart by being "conservative in Hollywood" when in real life she didn't care about politics at all.

As the most liberal person on the boards - I concur with Libby. We're very divided, unfortunately. It's ugly. We can't discuss things without getting into pissing matches (although, on the flip side, it is very important stuff). I blame hate radio and wedge issue politics.

Clooney is very cool. Not a fan of Chris Wallace, but I did purchase his wife's soup book in kindle form.

I'm also a vegetarian (not preachy). It's hard to find a lot of good recipes when you eliminate meat. And it's really hard to eat out quickly when you eliminate meat. You end up getting the same things all the time:

-morningstar veggie patty at BK (and then you find out Morningstar is a big GMO user, ugh!)
-veggie sub at Jimmie John's
-tomato mozzarella panini at Panera
-mediterranean veggie sandwich at Panera

You West coasters have it all on us living in the midworstern boonies when it comes to good eating places. I bet it's easy to be a veg in LA.

Everytime I see it I think it says "I'm a moron" and I have to reread it. Dyslexia. :/

Not trying to be mean either, simply laughing at my mistake!

I like everything Texshan has said. George Clooney's dad, Nick, is a conservative Republican. Not so unusual that George would have some Repub friends. And Chris Wallace's late dad, Mike, was a liberal. Not so unusual that Chris would have liberal friends. In fact, I think Chris is very objective on FOX. But I think he leans a little more to the left. Good Lord, I'm a conservative but many of my friends are liberal and we talk politics and we still get along fine.

Victoria Beckham looks totally miserable and definitely doesn't want to be there.

For those of you that are younger, this is a little bit of clarity re civics:

Tea Party is a 'movement' (not an established political party) that advocates strict adherence to the United States Constitution.

Libertarian is an established political party that is basically economically conservative and socially liberal.

Libby I LOVE ya'...perfectly said!

And don't forget old Shephard Smith on Fox....he's very outspoken and tells the TRUTH regardless of which side he has to shine a light on.

@CarolIMR...Nick Clooney is DEMOCRAT and ran for office in Kentucky and LOST TO A REPUBLICAN! Get your facts straight!

CarolMR, it's Brad Pitt's Mom that is the Republican . I know, they all blend into one another after awhile.
