Adrian Peterson Barred From The Vikings

Adrian Peterson is still going to get paid by the Minnesota Vikings but they have relented under the intense pressure and barred the running back from participating in any activities with the team until his child abuse case is resolved. Yesterday, the team said that Peterson would play this Sunday after being inactive last week. Then the story broke that Peterson had injured another son while also punishing him and it would have been laughable, if not so tragic to hear Vikings management try and explain their thought process for letting him play this week. They had no answer and no excuse and finally just gave in. I would imagine that Peterson's lawyers are working overtime to get a plea deal struck which will probably see him getting probation with some anger management classes and community service. After he is sentenced the league will then administer their own punishment so if he wants a chance to play this season he is going to have to reach a plea deal in the next week.

There are so many bigger issues for me that stem from these recent NFL violence stories: Like how our entire country revolves around the NFL. And NOTHING will ever break that. Football just irks the living daylights out of me. And people always think I'm so abnormal because I have absolutely zero interest in any of it.

discoflux said...: Kno Won - The union rep is appealing the decision based on inconsistencies within the organization in regards to handling players whose behavior off the field is "unbecoming." *ahem* It's essentially an attempt to force the league into creating a defined process for handling these situations and defined consequences for the behavior. discoflux said...: Tebow is a terrible player so even if he is perceived as a good guy, nobody wants him on their team. JJ Watt is an amazing teammate and an all around good guy. I know this is the third or fourth time I've mentioned him in the last couple of days but he really is awesome.

My parents pressured me to beat my children when they were young and were acting up. But, I knew that limiting their sugar intact was one of the keys to their actions. So, I managed their sugar and even found that fast food caused them to react fussy. So, no more. I fed them fruits and crackers every 2 hours to help them keep an even sugar intact balance. Vola! SusanB said...: I have no problem with this - I just wish the same attention was being paid to the players who beat their wives/girlfriends. The sponsors need to put the same pressure on the NFL to address this problem. The child beating problem seems to have swept the wife beating problem under the rug.

I'm just curious - I've never worked with someone who was arrested for any kind of domestic abuse. How do regular companies deal with employees who are charged with this? Are they fired? Laid off? Or is it ignored?

As for spanking, I was spanked (bare bottom with my mom's hand) several times as a small child, as were my siblings. No welts, no bruising. She gave it up when we were old enough to outrun her and she moved on to grounding, etc. My dad never spanked us - he told me when I was an adult he was afraid he'd lose his temper and kill one of us (since he very seldom lost his temper, I assume he was more afraid of his own strength and that he would hurt us).; 7:35 AM

FlirtyChick74 said...: I'm conflicted. Thus far, he seems like a nice guy. He was upfront about what he did and seemed remorseful. He didn't hide or make excuses. However, the physical scars are terrible. I don't think he knows his own strength and should have known that from the very beginning. The first time he punished any of his kids, he should have known this. Also, as much as people tout him as a family man and Christian, his actions really don't appear that way. He has several children out of wedlock ( the most recent being a waitress who works at Seven in downtown Minneapolis - and I think that was the result of a hookup). Not that having kids out of wedlock should matter but it is the image of "Christian family man" that he is benefiting from apart from his football skills. Parenting with Love and Logic, it works. Hitting is for people who dont have the words or tools to know better. The same people who have no coping and communication skills to talk to their children are probably the same people who lash out with fists (as adults) its a cycle and needs to stop.

Unknown said...: Get all these losers out of the league. Every player in the NFL is replaceable without damaging the NFL product. Yes individual teams may be hurt if start running back or quarterback gets kicked out but wouldn't really stop the steamroller which is the NFL. I bet a lot of the bad behavior would go away if players knew owners/league were to really have a zero tolerance for bad conduct. No one has a right to play in the NFL. I'd scream out a fuck fuck fuck at the top of my lungs, and maybe go walk into another room to take a deep breath. But to hit a person, especially a child. I just, I don't understand that process. Especially as a mom.
